Mercedes Launch Neck-Pro
Safety System
Mercedes has introduced "crash-responsive"
head restraints as standard equipment on the C-Class, CLK-Class,
CLS-Class and E-Class.
The Neck-Pro head restraints are linked to an
electronic control unit: if the sensor detects a serious rear-end
collision, it releases pre-tensioned springs inside the head restraints,
causing them to move forward 40 millimetres and upwards by 30 millimetres.
This happens in a split-second and reduces the risk of whiplash
injuries.
Following deployment, the head restraints can be
released and re-set using a special tool provided with the car,
meaning that there will not be a repair cost in the unfortunate
event of an accident.
